Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the display quality of a liquid crystal display device having electrodes divided to blocks, by providing notch parts in electrodes near inter-block boundaries and reducing gradually these notch parts according as going away from boundaries. CONSTITUTION:Notch parts 17 which are reduced gradually according as going away from dividing parts 16 between upper and lower data electrodes 14 and 15 are provided in data electrodes in parts where common electrodes do not exist. If data electrodes are shifted upward on a screen, blocks of upper data electrodes 14 and blocks of lower data electrodes 15 are shifted relatively to common electrodes 13 upward on the screen. In this case, effective display parts for display due to voltage application are indicated by oblique lines. Since areas of effective display picture elements are reduced in boundary parts of electrode blocks not rapidly but gradually, this reduction is hardly discriminated on the actual screen with the naked eye.

As for the electrode structure of the dot matrix m liquid crystal display, there are various types of electrode structures such as a double matrix electric repair structure and an electrode structure using multilayer wiring. In the figure, 1 digit common 11t right, 2 common electrode drive circuit, 3 upper data electrical connection, 41 lower data electrical connection g, 5

A liquid crystal material is sealed between the common 1 pole 1 and the upper electrical contact 3 or the lower terminal 4 in the figure, and a display is purchased, and the potential difference between the common and data electrodes is the threshold voltage of the liquid crystal. Once it is exceeded, that segment will be displayed. Although the display device of this example has a double N-pole shape and is simpler than the IJ box type, it has the disadvantage that display discontinuities are likely to occur at the upper and lower boundary line portions 7.

This problem will be explained with reference to FIG. FIG. 2 is an enlarged view of the central portion of the display shown in FIG. 1, when the data electrodes are shifted to the upper side of the screen with respect to the common electrodes. In the figure, 8 is a common electrode, 9 is an upper data electrode, and 10 is a lower data electrode.

Data electrode as shown? And when 10 is shifted to the top of the screen, the displayed image is common 1! Since this is the overlapping portion of the L pole and the data electrode (the hatched area in the figure), there are two types of pixels: pixel 11, which has no change in area, and pixel 12, whose area has decreased due to misalignment. In other words, the display area of a horizontal row of pixels in the center of the screen becomes smaller, significantly impairing the quality of the display screen. The object of the present invention is to improve the display quality of a liquid crystal display device having electrodes divided into blocks such as upper and lower blocks, left and right blocks, and the like.

FIG. 6 is an enlarged view of the electrode portion of the IJ type liquid crystal display device of the present invention. In the figure, there are 13 common electrodes, 14 upper data electrodes, and 15 lower data electrodes. As shown in the figure, in the present invention, the data electrodes are provided with notches 17 that gradually decrease in size as they move away from the dividing portion 16 of the upper and lower data 11, corresponding to the portions where there is no common electrode.

FIG. 4 is a diagram showing a display situation when the data electrodes are shifted to the upper side of the screen in the matrix type liquid crystal display of the present invention. In other words, this case represents a situation in which the block of the upper data electrode 14 and the block of the lower data electrode 15 are shifted toward the upper side of the screen relative to the coprecipitated common electric contact 13. An effective display area displayed by applying a voltage to is a shaded area 1a in the figure. In the present invention, unlike the conventional example, the reduction in the effective display pixel area due to the data ww position shift does not occur abruptly at the boundaries of the electrode blocks, but occurs gradually. Display quality can be significantly improved. , and Fig. 4 shows a case where the electrode position shifts toward the edge of the cell. 6. When the display device is in production, there will always be a slight shift, although there will not be such a large shift, but the display device of the present invention There is absolutely no need to pay attention to the deterioration in display quality caused by this. In the embodiment of the present invention, electrodes divided into upper and lower blocks are shown as data electrodes, but the present invention is not limited to this, and it goes without saying that left and right block electrodes, upper, middle and lower block electrodes, etc. are also effective.
