Abstract

PURPOSE:To restrain the projection of a spike tyre pin if unnecessary in order to prevent destructive wear of the road face and creation of dust therefrom by automatically varying the projecting state of the spike tyre pin according to the frozen and snow-covered condition of the road with the aid of the deforming force of a shape-memorizing alloy. CONSTITUTION:With a road face at a low temperature and frozen and covered with snow, a coiled shape-memorizing alloy 2 is under the plastic state and squeezed out of shape by a resilient initially coned disc spring 6, on account of which a spike pin 1 is projected from the surface of a tyre 4. It may be therefore prevented from slipping or so. When the temperature of the tyre 4 is raised during driving on the exposed face of the road, said shape-memorizing alloy 2 is returned into its memorizing shape and the initially coned disc spring 16 is squeezed so that the spike pin 11 sinks under the surface of the tyre 14, whereby preventing both the destructive wear of the road face due to projection of the spike pin 11 and resulting creation of dust.

In snowy regions like Hokkaido, most cars are equipped with spiked tires for half a year, but in recent years roads have become more exposed due to widespread snow removal and increased traffic. The conditions where spiked tires are required in freezing and snowy conditions are 10% of the mileage of spiked tires.
It is estimated that ~20%.

The present invention utilizes the fact that the heat generated by the road surface and spiked tires when running changes depending on the frozen and snowy condition of the road, and automatically changes the protruding state of the spiked tire bin according to the frozen and snowy condition of the road. That is, the purpose is to prevent destructive wear on the road surface and the generation of dust associated with it by suppressing the protrusion of spike pins when unnecessary.

To explain the present invention based on the drawings, FIGS. 1 and 2 show the operating state of an embodiment using a coiled memory alloy. FIG. 1 shows a state in which the coiled shape memory alloy 2 is in a plastic state at low temperatures and is normally crushed by the elastic disc spring 6, so that the spike pin 1 protrudes from the surface of the tire 4.

FIG. 2 shows a state in which the temperature of the tire increases due to driving on an exposed road surface, and the coiled shape memory alloy 12 returns to its memorized shape.
The disc spring 16 is crushed, the spike pin 11 sinks below the surface of the tire 14, and the tire no longer functions as a spiked tire. FIGS. 3 and 4 show the operating state of an embodiment using a shape memory alloy molded into a dish shape with a central portion cut out. FIG. 3 shows a state in which the disc-shaped shape memory alloy 22 with its center portion missing is in a plastic state and crushed by the normal elastic disc spring 26 at low temperatures, so that the spike pin 21 protrudes from the surface of the tire 24. . FIG. 4 shows a state in which the temperature of the tire has increased due to driving on an exposed road surface, and the shape memory alloy 32, which has been formed into a dish shape with the center portion missing, returns to its memorized shape, and the dish spring 36 is crushed and the spike pin 31 sinks below the surface of the tire 345,
The tires no longer function as spiked tires as they climb up the mud.
