Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily obtain the titled molded article even when the molded article has a three-dimensional surface and without requiring any pretreatment of the molded article, by a method wherein a thin metallic film is formed, then it is set in a mold, and a molding material is injection-molded to be integrated with the metallic film. CONSTITUTION:The thin metallic film (preferably, a thin aluminum film having a thickness of 0.01-10mu) is formed by pressing, vacuum forming, air pressure forming or the like. The thus formed metallic film is coated with an adhesive, as required, and is set in the mold. Then, injection molding is conducted to obtain the objective molded article.

Various methods are used to coat the surface of synthetic resin molded bodies, and in particular, there is a growing demand for metallic-like expression. This is because cutting or casting the metal itself is inefficient in manufacturing, and the excessive weight of the metal does not meet the demand for weight reduction.

Methods for imparting a metallic appearance to the surface of a molded object include, for example, electroless plating and transfer methods, but when electroless plating is used, wet steps such as pretreatment of the molded object and plating are required. There is a complexity that requires related peripheral equipment such as waste liquid treatment, and even if you try to give a metallic appearance to a molded object using a transfer method, it is difficult to apply the transfer method to a three-dimensional curved surface, let alone a flat or quadratic curved surface. It is.

A heat-sensitive and/or pressure-sensitive adhesive may be applied to the metal thin film in advance to increase its adhesion to the injection molded resin.
Further, the opposite side may be coated with a synthetic resin layer for the purpose of protecting the surface of the final product. Film adhesives and hot melt adhesives can also be used.

Shaping is performed by pressing, cold working, etc. In the case of a metal thin film formed on a releasable substrate, the molding of the releasable substrate may be used. It is desirable that the degree of molding be the same as that of the injection mold described below, but if the metal thin film is malleable and molded at the pressure and temperature used during injection molding, the shape will be similar to g. Alternatively, depending on the shape, the metal thin film may be formed substantially simultaneously during injection molding without being pre-molded.
