Abstract

Application of a coating to specific zones of an article, esp. decorative or mirror coatings e.g. on lenses for automobile lamps, is carried out by applying a previously formed mask on the zones of tfhe article which are to remain uncoated, the mask being pressure moulded from a pressure deformable alloy, and then depositing a coating on the zones of the article unprotected by the mask. The preformed mask may be provided with a protective coating which may be a lacquer or a layer of Cu.
