Abstract

PURPOSE:To avert the disturbance in the operation of a channel device owing to the errors generated in a magnetic tape device by providing a data buffer and a retry control part to a control device for magnetic tapes, and processing a retry with the control device for magnetic tapes. CONSTITUTION:When a processing unit 1 write data in a magnetic tape device 4 via a channel contorolling device 2, the unit 1 and the device 2 transfer the data for one block to a buffer 5. When an error is generated in the magnetic tape device upon completion of the transfer, a control part 3-1 communicates the same with a control part 6 for retry and repeats the retry until the retry attains required times. The part 3-1 gives an instruction for the retry, and instructs the erasure of the already written data by running the device 4 backward by one block. By the repetition of the above operations, the writing status of the device 4 is stored and the writing is completed.
