Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a normally displaying function by orientation of liquid- crystal molecules irrespectively of electric field application in a TN type liquid- crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:In a nondisplay part, liquid-crystal molecules 5 are oriented in parallel with substrates 4 by orienting materials at the interface of the substrates. In a liquid-crystal display part, the liquid-crystal molecules orient vertically to the substrates when an electric field is applied on transparent electrodes 7. In the parts desired to be displayed at all times, the liquid-crystal molecules are kept oriented vertically to the substrates 4 at all times by coating vertically orienting materials 8 thereon.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a TN type liquid crystal display element that has a constant display function regardless of the application of an electric field. There was a drawback that the contrast difference with the liquid crystal display section was large, and the display balance of the entire display was lost.

FIG. 2 shows a sectional view taken along line AA' of the liquid crystal display element shown in FIG. In the non-display area, the liquid crystal molecules 5 are aligned parallel to the substrate 4 by the alignment agent 6 at the interface of the substrate 4, and in the liquid crystal display area, the liquid crystal molecules are aligned by applying an electric field to the transparent electrode T. is oriented perpendicular to the substrate 4. In addition, by applying vertical alignment agent 8 to the part where you want to always display,
Liquid crystal molecules are always aligned perpendicularly to the substrate 4.

A liquid crystal is sandwiched between two substrates having transparent electrodes, and the liquid crystal molecules are aligned in parallel in a certain direction using the orientation principle at the interface between the substrates, and an electric field is applied to the transparent electrode to adjust the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules in the area to be displayed. In a TN type liquid crystal display element that performs a display function by changing the alignment, after the above alignment process, a part of the substrate interface is subjected to an alignment process different from this alignment process, so that only that part can be constantly displayed regardless of the application of an electric field. A liquid crystal display element with a patent that enables this.
