バラストタンクを備えた船舶は水海水域など外気条件が
厳しい寒冷地域を航海する時に、前記タンク内のバラス
ト水が凍結する恐れがあるので、従来はこの凍結を防止
するために、バラストタンク内にヒーティングコイルを
設備して高温蒸気によりタンク内のバラスト水を加熱す
る方法が一般に採用されていた。

料費も相邑に嵩む欠点があった。

い、最も凍結が予想されるタンク上部の水加熱にはあま
り有効に作用しないという問題もあった。

従来の如き各種の問題を簡単に解消しようとするもので
ある。

より船体1のオーバーボード吐出口5から船外に排出す
ると同時に、この排水量に対応した量の海水を船底付近
に設けたシーチェスト6から取入れて、ポンプ7の作動
によりバラストタンク2の上方注水管8からタンク内に
送給して、バラストタンク2内のバラスト水を循環させ
ることにより、寒冷地航行時におけるバラスト水の凍結
を防止するようにしたものである。
