Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve durability of a rocker arm used for a valve rocker system member in an internal-combustion engine, by jointing a pad material of dust high-speed steel to a contact surface of the rocker arm with a cam. CONSTITUTION:A rocker arm 4 is mounted to a valve rocker arm shaft 3 correspondingly to a cam 2 mounted to and rotated by a cam shaft 1. A pad material 5 of good wearing resistance is secured by welding or brazing to a contact part of this arm 4 to the cam 2. Chilled cast iron is used as the cam material while powder high-speed steel is used as the pad material. In this way, durability can be improved.

The valve train components of these internal combustion engines must be lubricated under harsh conditions, especially in diesel engines, where combustion products such as carbon suit are mixed into the lubricating oil as it ages. As the period of oil use increases,
Its durability is significantly impaired. Conventionally, for these valve train members, chilled cast iron has been used as the cam material, and hard Cr plating, special steel, special cast iron, sintered material, etc. have been used as the rocker arm material. The present invention combines new materials instead of these combinations of materials.
This provides a valve train member that has far superior durability against lubricating oil, and its structure consists of a cam made of chilled cast iron, and powdered high-speed steel on the contact surface of the rocker arm with the cam. It is characterized by joining pad materials.

That is, this type of valve train member, as shown in the drawing,
A rocker arm (4) is attached to the valve arm shaft (3) corresponding to the cam (2) attached to the camshaft (1) and rotated, and the relationship between the cam (2) and the cam (2) on this rocker arm (4) is Pad material with good wear resistance (5
) is fixed by welding or brazing, this pad material (5) contacts the cam (2), and the rocker arm (4) swings due to the rotation of the cam (2), but at the contact point between the two In the present invention, chilled cast iron is used as the cam (2) material, and powdered high-speed steel is used as the pad material (5), and the combination of these materials results in a motion with significantly improved durability. This led to the creation of a valve system mechanism.

Next, we tested the combinations of materials with the above chemical components and hardness, and the combinations of other materials, under the following conditions, and measured the amount of wear and scuffing. The results are as shown in Table 1, and in this table, P i- indicates the product of the present invention, and when the combination of the present invention is used, compared to other combinations, wear is not observed particularly on the rocker arm. The results were very good, and the scuff itself was also very good.
