Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a valve gear link member which can preferably operate under severe sliding conditions for an internal cimbustion engine by forming special iron sintered alloy at the contact surface with a cam, pushrod or valve end and penetrating sulfur into the surface thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A member forming a contact surface with a cam, pushrod or valve end, namely iron sintered alloy chip member contains one or more of elements such as Cr, Mo, W, V, etc. forming hard phase at a ratio of 5W70% in area ratio with HV800W1800 of hardness. The particles in the hard phase contain 70% of the entire particles having 1W150 microns. The void ratio of the alloy is 0.5W30%. This alloy is treated by penetrating sulfur, soft nitriding or both penetrating sulfur and soft nitrading to thereby form a compound layer and diffused layer therein to thereby improve the hardness to HV200W1300.
