Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove neutral malodorous substances as well as acidic and basic malodorous substances by a method wherein an aqueous acidic solution containing bromide ions is used as a cleaning liquid for an acid cleaning column, and the washings in the acid cleaning column and an alkali cleaning column are ozonized by aeration.
CONSTITUTION: An odorous gas to be treated is sucked in by a blower 4, is introduced into the aicd cleaning column 1 and is cleaned by the aqueous acidic solution of pH5 or less which contains bromide ions and is fed from a spray pipe 9a. The gas is then introduced into the alkali cleaning column 2, where it is cleaned by an alkali liquid of pH10W11 sprayed from a spray pipe 9 and is fed into an active carbon adsorption column 3 via the blower 4. On the othr hand, the washings 7a, 7b collected at the bottom of the columns 1, 2 are ozonized by dispersing ozone fed from an ozonizer 12 into the liquids through dispersing pipes 6a, 6b. Accordingly, neutral malodorous substances such as methyl sulfide and methyl dioxide can also be removed efficiently.
