Abstract

PURPOSE:To mold the captioned foamed item having a smooth surface layer, by loading a cavity with styrene resin particles that have been preliminarily foamed using a volatile foaming agent, and subjecting them to first and second heating under specified steam pressure. CONSTITUTION:The particles 4 that have been prepared by preliminarily foaming a styrene resin impregnated with a volatile foaming agent are loaded into the cavity 1 defined by male and female molds that are provided with first heating chambers 2 leading to the cavity and adjacent to outer walls remote from the cavity 1 and second heating chambers 3 adjacent to inner walls facing the cavity 1. Then, steam generated in a boiler 5 is introduced into the chambers 3 under a steam pressure of P2(P1+1<P2<6)kg/cm<2> via adjusting valves S-3, S-4 of a steam controlling apparatus C to heat the inner walls to a softening temperature of the resin or more, and then steam is introduced into the chambers 2 under a steam pressure of P1(0.7<=P1<=1.4)kg/cm<2> via adjusting valves S-1, S-2 to cause the particles to be fused and to be foamed.
