Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare titled safe and effective vaccine useful for preventing the infection with Sendai virus, by treating the pellet of Sendai virus with a nonionic surface-active agent and an organic solvent which is not completely miscible with water, in the absence of salts.
CONSTITUTION: The pellet of Sendai virus (another name: Hemagglutionating Virus of Japan; abbr. HVJ) is treated with a nonionic surface-active agent (e.g. polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate) and an organic solvent (e.g. ethyl ether) which is not completely miscible with water, essentially in the absence of salts (e.g. physiological sline water, buffer solutions, etc; the concentration of salt is <1m-mole, pref.<0.5m-mole) to obtain the objective inactivated HVJ vaccine. In has high immunity titer and low toxicity, and can be inoculated safely to mammalians (e.g. rodents such as mouse) having sensitivity to HVJ.
