Abstract

PURPOSE:To quickly replace an outer work roll, by providing a wheel at lower side of a bearing chock stand, and by providing a vertically movable rail within a rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:When a roll is to be replaced, an assembly of a work roll 2' and a bearing shock 4' is put on a bearing stand 5. Then, an assembly of an outer work roll and bearing chocks 2, 4, 2'', 4'' is put on the stand 5, and this assembly is prevented from falling down by using a hook 9, besides, the axial movement of roll is restrained by a fit-in part. The assembled three rolls and the stand 5 is put on a rail in front of the mill through a wheel 6. A rail 7 laid in a span equal to the breadth of rolling mill is aligned to the level of the rail in front of the mill, and then, the stand 5 is taken into the rolling mill. The rail 7 in the housing is elevated so as to make the upper part of bearing chocks 4, 4'' impossible to move in the direction of roll axis by the fit-in part provided to the housing window, similarly to the lower part.
