Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a cold rolled steel sheet having high baking hardenability suitable for making car body, etc., by subjecting a cold rolled steel strip to recrystallization annealing at a specified temperature and an over aging treatment, then quenching said strip after cooling gradually. CONSTITUTION:In the course of the continuous annealing of a cold rolled steel strip, a recrystallization annealing is performed for 10sec-10min at a temperature higher than the recrystallization temperature and <=880 deg.C, and the carbon is dissolved into the steel to form a solid solution. Then, the steel sheet is subjected to an over aging treatment under a condition where the carbon is dissolved supersaturately into solid solution, for more than one minute from 300 to 500 deg.C. After the over aging treatment, the steel sheet is gradually cooled to a temperature which is lower than the over-aging temperature from 250 deg.C to 350 deg.C, at a cooling rate of 10-60 deg.C/sec. After the gradual cooling, the steel sheet is quenched. When this method is applied, an appropriate amount of solid solution of carbon remains in the steel, and, by strain aging due to the solid solution of carbon, a baking hardenability after bake-painting is given to the steel.
