PURPOSE: To provide a calender roll excellent in heat exchanging efficiency and adapted to reduce energy loss by a method wherein a means for inducing a rotational flow of a heat-transmitting medium is provided in a passage for the medium provided in the vicinity of the surface of a roll.
CONSTITUTION: For example, the heat-transmitting medium heated by a temperature controller 1 is introduced into a central hole 5 in the interior of a drilled roll on the opposite side of a rotary joint 3 through a supply pipe 2, the rotary joint 3 and an inner pipe 4, and it is fed into a drilled hole 9 beneath the roll surface through a slanted hole 8 to uniformly heat the roll surface. The drilled hole 9 consists of three adjacent hole parts connected in series with each other in the interior of the roll so as to make uniform the temperature distribution of the roll surface.
