USE: A perfumery base. All of the titled compound including the saturated one is liquid at normal temperature. Esp. the 13C fatty acid and the zinc salt of 13C fatty acid derived therefrom exhibits strong antibacterial activity even at high pH.
PROCESS: An unsaturated hydrocarbon of formula VI (Y' is -CH=CH-) which is the alternating copolymer oligomer of propylene and butadiene is subjected to addition reaction with an acrylic acid ester at 25W200°C to obtain an unsaturated fatty acid ester which is one of the fatty acid esters of the formulaI.
