Abstract

PURPOSE: To rapidly increase rotary speed of a runner and quickly pass the critical zone of its resonance speed, by opening a guide vane to a degree of no-load opening or larger degree than start opening when the rotary speed of the runner reaches the prescribed rotary speed.
CONSTITUTION: Rotary speed of a runner (not shown) is gradually increased with the opening of a guide vane (not shown) to reach a level in the vicinity of rotary speed Nn1 corresponding to the lower limit of a resonance critical zone, then a speed detecting relay 13-1 operates to excite a load limiter opening command relay 77R again at this point of time. In this way, rotary speed is rapidly increased to promptly pass the resonance critical zone of the runner, then a resonating time is reduced, thus starting operation of a water turbine can be safely performed.
