Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium with a thin film magnetic substance layer and of high coercive force easily, by supplying oxygen to the magnetic layer forming part of a high polymer substrate and reversing the flow of the oxygen against the running direction of the high polymer substrate. CONSTITUTION:When a high polymer substrate of about 100mm. wide, and about >=100m long is continuously run in a vacuum tank of <=1/10<3>Torr., a single or plurality of magnetic substance such as iron, cobalt and nickel are continuously evaporated to obtain a thin film magnetic layer on the surface of the substrate. At the lamination of the magnetic layer, oxygen is applied to the said high polymer substrate and near the evaporating point of magnetic substance, so that the flow of the oxygen is reversed against the running direction of the high polymer substrate. Thus, the cost can be reduced because mass-production of high density recording media can be made and the method of oxygen supply is simple.
