Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve corrosion of a magnetic recording medium easily, by laminating a ferromagnetic thin film on a plastic film via a corrosion-resistant thin film. CONSTITUTION:A corrosion-resistant thin film, preferably an alpha-Fe2-deltaO3 (0<=delta<=1) thin film 4 is formed on the surface 3 of a plastic film 2, and a ferromagnetic thin film 1 is formed on this thin film 4. The thin film 4 is a film where Fe is evaporated and laminated by controlling the temperature of the plastic film 2 and the amount of oxygen, the vapor deposition speed in oxygen atmosphere. Even if water molecules already incorporated in the plastic film 2 appear on the surface 3 of the plastic film 2, since the chemically very stable thin film 4 is formed on the surface 3, the movement of water molecules to the ferromagnetic thin film 1 is interrupted, consequently the corrosion of the ferromagnetic thin film can be reduced.
