Abstract

PURPOSE:To electrically generate and erase a liquid crystal bubble, by using a pair of electrodes, and a mixed liquid crystal which has added a cholesteric liquid crystal and a mnematic liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy, to a mnematic liquid crystal having negative dielectric anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:Transparent substrates 1, 3 having transparent electrodes 2, 4 on the inside surface are opposed through a spacer 5, a gap between these substrates 1, 3 is filled with a mixed liquid crystal 6 which has added a cholesteric liquid crystal of a small quantity and a mnematic liquid liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy to a mnematic liquid crystal having negative dielectric anisotropy, and the electrode 2 is connected in parallel to a bubble generating DC power source 9 of comparatively high voltage and a bubble erasing DC power source 10 of comparatively low voltage with an electric wire 12a, and is connected to the electrode 4 through a 3-position rotary switch 11 with an electric wire 12b. Also, on both the outsides of this bubble liquid crystal cell 100, a pair of polarization plates 7, 8 are placed so that the polarization planes are made perpendicular to each other.
