Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide socure engagement of a pinion gear and a ring gear at start of an engine by providing pinion assembly consisting of a drive shaft and so on between the above gears acting as a starter unit.
CONSTITUTION: A pinion gear 5 fixed to the end of an output shafr 4 of a starter motor 3 is engaged with the first deceleration gear 6 and the second deceleration gear 7 is engaged with a gear 9 of a drive shaft 8. The drive shaft 8 meshes with a clutch inner 16 via a helical spline 10. This inner 16 is unitedly secured to a pinion gear 12 and a one-way roller clutch 13 which is integrated with a starter pinion cup 15, and pushed downward by a spring 21. At starting, the shaft 8 is turned to make the spline 10 elevate the inner 16 so that the gear 12 may be engaged with a ring gear 31 which interlocks with a crank shaft 29.
