CONSTITUTION: A starter comprises a pinion shaft 12 fitted with a drive pinion of an engine, an inner clutch member 7 fitted by a helical spline on the outside surface of the pinion shaft 12, the outer clutch member 5 which is provided around the inner clutch member 7 so that the outer clutch member 5 can be rotated in one direction together with the inner clutch member 7 through a roller 6, and the clutch gear 4 integrated in series with the outer clutch member 5. The clutch gear 4 is driven by a motor through an output shaft 1 and gear 2. The clutch plate 8 is provided at the open end of the outer clutch member 5 to close the open end.
