Abstract

PURPOSE: To control to predetermined air fuel ratio entirely by partitioning a multi-cylinder engine into first cylinder group having an exhaust sensor and second cylinder group having the air fuel ratio different from that of the first group and controlling the first group to the theoritical air fuel ratio.
CONSTITUTION: An engine 1 is partitioned into first cylinder group 1a and second cylinder groups 1b, 1c, 1d then coupled to the branch suction paths 2aW 2d having the fuel injection valves 7aW7d, and the independent exhaust paths 3aW3d. The air fuel ratio of the mixed gas to the first cylinder group is different from that of the second cylinder group. An exhaust sensor 12 is provided in the exhaust path 3a of the first group 1a and the signal from said sensor 12 is provided together with the signals from an airflow sensor 10 and a r.p.m. sensor 11 to a controller 8 thus to set the injection amount from said valve 7a into the theoretical air fuel ratio. The fuel injection having different air fuel ratio is performed at other injection valves 7bW7d.
