Abstract
PURPOSE: To simultaneously attain the cleaning of steel scraps and an effect of saving energy by preheating the scraps on a melting furnace to separate and recover a substance stuck to the scraps before charging the scraps into the melting furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Hot radiant heat and convection heat are emitted upward from molten metal 2 in a melting furnace 1 as shown by the arrows. The heats act on scraps 4 of a zinc coated steel plate packed in a container 3 through the latticed bottom plate 3c ro evaporate stuck zinc. This zinc is oxidized to zinc oxide at once, blown into a dust collecting hood 6 through a cover 5, and recovered with a dust collector. After evaporating all of the stuck zinc, the plate 3c is opened downward to drop cleaned and preheated steel scraps 4 into the furnace 2, and the scraps 4 are melted.
