Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the titled catalyst having low bulk density, moisture proofness and high capacity of converting CO into CO2 at a room temp., prepared by supporting Pd and/or Pt on an alumina carrier.
CONSTITUTION: Commercially available alumina which has absorbed an aqueous solution of a compound such as chloride of Pd and/or Pt or the like by immersing the same in said aqueous solution is dried in air and reduced by a reducing agent such as hydrazine or H2 to precipitate metallic Pd and/or Pt on the alumina. The resulting alumina is sufficiently washed with water and dried in air or under vacuum to obtairn a catalyst. An amount of supported Pd and/or Pt against the alumina carrier is pref. about 0.01W10wt%. In the thus obtained catalyst, air premeation resistance can be lowered by reducing bulk density by appropriately selecting a particle size of alumina and moisture proofness thereof is also high. Thus the catalyst is suitable for a gas mask having a high CO removal effect even at a high temp. and high humidity condition.
