Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize the catalytic action for a long period of time in subjecting an exhaust gas containing CO, HC, NOx etc. to an oxidizing and reducing treatment in the presence of a catalyst to purify the same, by passing the exhaust gas from an oxidizing catalyst to a reducing catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: In subjecting an exhaust gas containing harmful components such as CO, HC, NOx or the like to a purifying treatment, on an oxidizing catalyst containing a nobel metal such as Pt or Pd supported on glass fiber as a carrier is put a reducing catalyst containing an element such as Rh, Ru, Pr or Sm or an oxide of a metal such as Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, V, Mo or Cr supported on glass fiber as a carrier and an exhaust gas is flowed from the oxidizing catalyst to the reducing catalyst to remove CO, HC and NOx in good efficiency without lowering activity of the catalysts for a long period of time.
