Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily and accurately assign specified picture area, by assigning optional two oints in pictures, and treating a square area having said two points as diagonal corners as a specified picture area. CONSTITUTION:When a reading operation of an original picture is started by a scanner, a control section 12 detects that a main scan synchronizing signal SYNC is generated, and assigns an address 100 to an X-coordinate storing section 1 and a Y-coordinate storing section 2. A contents YS corresponding to the address 100 in the Y-coordinate storing section 2 are designated, and the control section 12 inspects whether YS<=YC<YE (where, YC is the counted contents of X-counter 3, and YE is the contents of the storing section 2) is satisfied or not by the output f a Y-comparator 5. When this relationship is not realized, the control section updates the address successively and searches a picture area where this condition is satisfied. When the condition is realized, the control section 12 issues an access command to a selector 6 and stores values XS and XE of the X-coordinate storing section 1 in the picture area into X-coordinate buffer memories 71 and 72 in a successive order from the smaller one to the larger one.
