Abstract
PURPOSE:To inspect easily how a fishing net sinks by measuring the distance to the sea bottom from a transponder utilizing a plurality of response signals from the transponder provided on the net. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic signal is transmitted to a transponder T underwater from a transmitter/receiver S1 equipped on a ship to obtain a discrete value 2n1 corresponding to the incoming and outgoing distance based on the time covered until a response signal wave from T reaches S1. A discrete value (n1+ n2) is obtained corresponding to the sum of the distance from S1 to T and the distance from T1 to S1 via the sea bottom surface 7 based on the time covered until the reflected response signal wave reaches S1 when the angle theta of incidence from T to the sea bottom surface 7 equals the angle theta' of incidence from the surface 7 to S1. A discrete value n3 is obtained corresponding to the water depth Df from S2 and the equation d=(n2<2>-n1<2>)/4n3 is computed to find the distance d from T to the sea bottom.
