Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a phosphor which emits from red to orange light with good color rendering by electron beam or ultraviolet light irradiation, by substituting Eu3+ expressed by a specified formula as an activater for part of Y and/or Gd.
CONSTITUTION: A phosphor which is expressed by the formula (wherein A is Sr and/or Ba; B is Y and/or Gd; C is Ta and/or Nb; 1.95≤x+y/2≤2.05 and 0.04≤ y≤0.32) and in which Eu3+ as an activator is substituted for part of Y and/or Gd, is provided. This phosphor has primary luminous peak at nearly 595nm and secondary luminous peak at nearly 611nm under ultraviolet light or electron beam excitation. When compared with the emission spectrum of a red light- emitting Y2O3; Eu3+ phosphor (having primary peak at nearly 610nm) which is used for similar purpose, the emission spectrum of this phosphor is superior in luminosity to that of the above conventional phosphor. Further, this phosphor exhibits good color rendering.
