Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve minimum range detection performance and to maximize S/N ratio by pulse compression, by making the pulse width of a linear FM waveform variable in accordance with the range of a target from a radar device. CONSTITUTION:The pulse width of a linear FM waveform is made variable with the range of a target from a radar device. For example, a wave having a linear RM waveform as shown in the figure is generated by a transmitter 5 and radiated into the air from an antenna 3 through a transmission-reception device 4. An echo from the taget is received by a pulse comparession device 2 throuth the antenna 3 and transmission-reception switching device 4 and after the pulses are compressed, a range tracker 6 measures the range R from the radar device to the target. Further, when the value of this R decreases below CT/2 (where C is the velocity of light and T is transmitted pulse width), the transmitted pulse width T of the transmitter 5 is reduced to set the R a little bit greater than the CT/2.
