Abstract

PURPOSE:To enlarge the angular range of scanning of an antenna beam by shifting a pulse repetition frequency according to the scanning angle of the antenna beam in a pulse Doppler radar device wherein a moving target is detected by using a phased array antenna. CONSTITUTION:The beam steering direction thetaa obtained from a beam direction indicating unit 3 is supplied to a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) shifting unit 17. Then, a value DELTAfw expressed by the formula is calculated in the shifting unit 17 and a trigger signal of a transmitter 4 is formed so that PRF larger than the value obtained from calculation is obtained, whereby the transmitter 4 is controlled for shifting. By this constitution, a transmission pulse signal is emitted with an appropriate value of PRF in synchronization with a beam scanning angle thetaa and thereby a target is detected. In the formula, Vs is the flying velocity of the airplane, lambda is the wavelength of a transmitted wave, and DELTAthetaw (0) is the beam-width of a phased array antenna when thetaa equal 0.
