Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a wide range image including an image in the direction of progress of a flying object by rotating the main beam direction of an antenna mounted on the flying object through 360 deg. and scanning the earth surface in a helical form as the flying object travels. CONSTITUTION:The synthetic aperture face radar device is composed of a transmitter 10 which transmits pulses continuously, a circulator 11, an antenna 12 which projects pulses supplied by the transmitter 10 via the circulator 11 to a target 13 on the earth surface and receives reflected waves from it, a receiver 14 and a controlling device 19. The controlling device 19 is a device which controls the main beam direction of the antenna 12 so as to scan the earth surface in the helical form as the flying object travels, rotating the antenna 12 mechanically through 360 deg. or, when the antenna 12 is an electronic scanning antenna such as a phased array antenna, controlling its directivity electrically.
