Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the radiation resistant properties, by always keeping an optical fiber or an image guide at the lowest annealing temperature. CONSTITUTION:A heating resistance wire 3 is wound round an area close to 1 of an optical fiber cable 2 which is provided near a powerful radiation source 1 such as a reactor, etc. Then the electric power is supplied to heat the cable 2 up to about 400 deg.C. The light is transmitted to a right edge photodetector 5 from a left edge light emitting element 4 of the cable 2. When the cable 2 is replaced with an image guide, an image 6 of a matter and a naked eye 7 are used in place of the element 4 and the photodetector 5 respectively. The reason why an optical fiber has high resistance to the radiation under a high temperature is not completely made clear. And the stripping action by the glass annealing may be one of the factors.
