Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the light intensity on optical axis by forming the end faces of the optical fibers which constitute a circle to straight line converting device and are arranged in a linear shape into a spherical shape. CONSTITUTION:End faces of optical fibers 11 are once metlted by heating and spherical faces are obtained by the generated surface tension. If they are optical fibers made of quartz, they are generally constituted of multielement glass and therefore they can be melted when heated to about 650-800 deg.C. For the optical fiber groups which have already been arranged into a linear shape by resins or the like, they can be melted, if they are heat-treated by scanning or the like of, for example, a burner or the like. By such operations, the end faces of the fibers 11 are made into a spherical lens (convex lens) shape, whereby the diffusion of light outputs is prevented and the light intensity on the optical axis is increased.
