Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently manufacture an optical integrated circuit coupling device with small-loss and excellent-stability by aligning an optical integrated circuit and an optical fiber, and heating and melt-sticking them directly. CONSTITUTION:On both end surfaces of an optical integrated circuit 11 formed on a glass substrate 12 and having the functions of branching, filtering and modulating a light beam, optical fibers 13 and 14, to and from which light is incident and emitted, are aligned to a waveguide part in the optical integrated circuit 11. The end parts of the optical fibers 13 and 14 are heated by arc discharge, in a flame, etc., to melt-stick the end parts of the optical fibers 13 and 14 to the optical integrated circuit 11 mutually. Thus, an optical integrated circuit coupling device has high coupling efficiency and is stable against mechanical vibration.
