Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a developer stable against environmental change such as high temperature and high humidity in order to obtain a high image quality, by using a developer containing fine silicic acid powder synthesized by a wet method as the developer of an electrostatic latent image. CONSTITUTION:An insulating developer 11 is obtained by adding 0.01-20wt% fine silica powder having 0.01-2mum average primary particle diameter synthesized by a wet method to a toner consisting of 10-70wt% magnetic powder having 0.05- 5mum average particle diameter, a binder resin, and a colorant. A sleeve 4b for bearing a nonmagnetic developer provided with a nonrotating multipolar permanent magnet 9 in its inside is rotated in the arrow direction, the developer 11 fed from a hopper 12 is spread on the sleeve 4b, the developer 11 is given a charge reverse to the charge of an electrostatic latent image by friction between the sleeve 4b face and tone particles, and then, thickness of the developer 11 is made uniformly thin by a doctor blade 10. This sleeve 4b and an electrostatic latent image bearing drum 1 rotating in the arrow direction are arranged opposited to each other in the development part at a constant clearance apart, and the developer 11 is transferred to the drum 1 to execute development.
