Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower vibration of an internal combustion engine, by counting the frequency of inversion of the output of an oxygen-density detector from ''lean'' side to ''rich'' side and vice versa, and delaying the ignition timing for idling operation in case that the detected frequency of inversion within a predetermined time period is greater than a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:An electronic control unit 14 controls the quantity of fuel ejected from a fuel injection valve 15 through detection of the fact that the output signal of an oxyge-density detector 46 is inverted from ''lean'' side to ''rich'' side and vice versa. Further, when idling operation is detected from the output signal of a vehicle-speed sensor 50 nd a throttle switch 49, the electronic control unit 14 controls the ignition timing to a predetemined ignition timing for idling operation. For this purpose, frequency of inversion of the output signal of the detector 46 is counted for a predetermined period. In case that the frequency of inversion thus detected is greater than a prescribed value, the ignition timing for idling operation is delayed by prescribed degrees.
