Abstract

PURPOSE: To contrive to reduce the NOX emission in exhaust gas by a method wherein the inversion of the output of an oxygen concentration detector from lean signal to rich signal is detected and, then the skip amount is made to be comparatively large for the predetermined period of time.
CONSTITUTION: An electronic controlling unit 14 converts the rich and lean signals from the oxygen concentration detector 46 to controlling signals which control the injection quantity at a fuel injection valve 15. When the output of said detector 46 changes from the lean signal to the rich signal or vice versa, the controlling signal level is skipped by the fixed value. At this time, the inversion of the output of the oxygen concentration detector 46 from the rich signal to the lean signal is detected with a comparator in the controlling unit 14, and said skip amount is made to be larger for the predetermined period of time after the detected inversion as compared with the skip amount at the time point after said the predetermined period of time after the inversion.
