Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the corrosion due to the blowthrough at the surface of a sheet used for an exhaust valve effectively by a method wherein the surface of the sheet is applied by flame spray coating whose surface portion has a ceramic density higher than that of the deeper portion and which has been subjected to a heat treatment under pressure.
CONSTITUTION: As shown in the sectional view, the surface of the sheet formed on a base material B for a valve body and a valve sheet is applied with the flame spray coating whose surface portion has a ceramic density higher than the deeper portion thereof. To be more concrete, the sprayed layer A is formed of a ceramic material 3 and a metal or an alloy 4 such that the density of the ceramic material becomes higher toward the surface portion and vice versa. The ceramic material 3 is selected properly from Al2O3, TiO2 and ZrO2 and the metal or the alloy 4 is selected properly from several kinds of spraying metals or alloys having different anti-corrosive properties and strengths.
