Abstract

PURPOSE: To progress digestion reaction with good efficiency under high org. mater load and recover gaseous methane effectively by subjecting only the excess sludge produced from a sewage treatment plant to anaerobic digestion treatment, and mixing this with the initially settled sludge then performing anaerobic digestion.
CONSTITUTION: The initially settled sludge and excess sludge produced from a sewage treatment plant are collected separately, and the excess sludge is fed to an anaerobic digester 3 by a sludge pump 2. The number of days stagnation in this process is about 3W7 days and the sludge is decomposed to gaseous methane and carbon dioxide. Next, the formed the slurry is charged into a mixing vessel 4, where it is mixed with the initially settled sludge fed by a sludge pump 1. The mixed sludge is charged into an anaerobic digester 5, where it is subjected to anaerobic digestion treatment. The gases produced from the digesters 3, 5 are metered with a gas metering device 6, after which they are stored in a gas holder 7.
