Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-stereoregularity polyolefin in high activity, by polymerizing an olefin by use of a catalyst consisting of an organometallic compound, an organic acid ester and a component containing a titanium compound supported on a specified solid substance.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin or olefins are polymerized or copolymerized by use of a catalyst obtained by combining a solid catalytic component containing a titanium compound and/or a titanium compound/organic acid ester adduct, supported on a solid substance prepared by copulverizing a magnesium monohalide of the formula: MgX, wherein X is a halogen atom, and a phosphorus compound selected from the group consisting of a phosphorus halide and a phosphorus oxyhalide, with a mixture or adduct of an organometallic compound and an organic acid ester. As the magnesium monohalide used, magnesium monochloride is particularly preferred. As the titanium compound, there is preferred a tetravalent- or a trivalent-titanium compound. As the organometallic compound, there is preferred an organoaluminum compound or an organozinc compound.
