Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain, with increased productivity, an olefin polymer having a narrow range of MW distribution, by use of a polymerization catalyst prepared by treating a solution of a hydrocarbon containing a magnesium compound and a titanium compound, with an organoaluminum halide.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin is polymerized by use of a catalyst system which is composed of an organoaluminum compound and a hydrocarbon-insoluble solid obtained by treating a homogeneous solution of a hydrocarbon, containing a compound of formula I (wherein R2 is an alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl; X2 is a halogen; m is 1 or 2) and a compound of formula II (wherein R3 is an alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl; X3 is a halogen; n is 1W3), with an organoaluminum halode of formula III (wherein R1 is an alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl; X is a halogen; 1≤l≤2).
