Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a (co)polymer of an α-olefin, having an increased bulk density and a sharp particle size distribution, by polymerizing the monomer in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a magnesium halide treated with an electron donor, and an organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: An α-olefin other than ethylene and if necessary diolefins are (co)polymerized preferably at 60W180°C in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (A) a component prepared by heating magnesium chloride, etc. with preferably more than equimolar amount of an electron donor, e.g. acetic acid, etc., adding an organometallic compound of a III group metal (e.g. organoaluminum compound, etc.)(preferably 0.2W2 mole on the basis of 1 mole of the electron donor)thereto, further adding a transition metal compound of IVWVI group (e.g. titanium tetrachloride, etc.), and (B) an organometallic compound of a IWIII group metal (e.g. triethylaluninum, etc.).
