Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate necessity of a temperature controlling device and maintenance of a heater by using a heat generating cylinder made of porcelain of barium titanate group etc. that has positive temperature resistance characteristic for a heating fixation roller. CONSTITUTION:A heat generating cylinder 2 which is the main body of the heating fixation roller 1 is made through forming porcelain PTC of barium titanate, etc., that has very large positive resistance characteristic to cylindrical shape. When temperature is low, this PTC has small resistance and causes relatively large current to flow, and by the flow of current, temperature rises due to Joule heat generated in PTC itself. When temperature arrives at a constant value, resistance of PTC becomes suddenly high and restrains current flow to decrease generation of Joule heat and maintains temperature at a fixed value. Consequently, temperature distribution becomes uniform over the whole surface of the roller 1. No change with the passage of time due to disconnection or oxidation etc., occurs and maintenance such as charge of the heater becomes unnecessary.
