Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of liquefied gas required for cooling, by sotring a metal block detachably in a metallic holder which has excellent thermal conductivity, by freezing a sample in pressure contact with the surface of the metal block, and then by taking it out in the pressure contact state. CONSTITUTION:Liquefied gas 1 is supplied from a container 10 to a vessel 2 to cool a metal block 8, which has excellent thermal conductivity, through a holder 6 which also has excellent thermal conductivity. A sample is hled in a sample holder 17 fitted atop of a plunger 16 and inserted into a sample introduction pipe 14; and it is made to fall freely from adequate height, and the sample S is brought into pressure contact with the metal block 8 to be frozen rapidly. The punger 16 is drawn out with a chuck 18 while the sample in pressure contact, and the metal block 8 and all are placed in an atmosphere of liquefied nitrogen for separation. Cooling requires a small quantity of the liquefied gas because the metal block with small capacity is only cooled in every freezing processing of the sample, and the sample surface is prevented from being frozen because the sample in pressure contact is taken out.
