Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently extract and separate most of copper and selenium in copper electrolytic slime by reducing the free sulfuric acid concn. of the slime, oxidizing the slime with oxygen at a high temp. under pressure, and carrying out extraction with sulfuric acid.
CONSTITUTION: Copper electrolytic slime is freed of liquor and washed in water or neutralized to reduce the free sulfuric acid concn. to ≤25g/l. This slime is charged into a pressure reactor in the form of an aqueous slurry and oxidized at a high temp. such as about 150W300°C under a high partial pressure of oxygen such as ≥about 4kg/cm2. By this reaction most of copper and selenium in the slime are converted into acid-soluble compounds. Sulfuric acid is then added and agitated to extract copper and selenium. This liq. extract is freed of silver and treated with a reducing agent such as gaseous SO2 to recover selenium as a simple substance. The remaining liq. contg. copper is freed of tellurium and fed to a blue vitriol process to recover copper. The extraction residue contains little copper and selenium, so it is dried and supplied to an ordinary dissolving and presipitating process.
