Abstract

PURPOSE: To transfer a filler metal stably to a molten pool and obtain uniform weld beads by using an electric power source having specific electric current characteristics for an electric power source for heating filler metal connected between the filler metal and the work.
CONSTITUTION: An electric power source 6 for heating has the low voltage of the extent of not generating any arc between a filler metal 7 and the work 2 in no-load voltage, and has the constant current characteristics of abrupt fall chracteristics of which the output voltage-current characteristics are ≥V/50A. To this end, the output characteristics are arranged to have the constant voltage characteristic CP of slight fall characteristics or dropping characteristics of gentle fall characteristics similar to those in the prior art in the output current range less than the operation point determined by the point of intersection of the load characteristics FW0 and FW1 or FW2 of the filler metal. This necessitates controlling the output current of the power source 6 with semiconductor control elements such as thyristors, transistors or the like.
