Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase sensing sensitivity by providing P and N type semiconductor thin films on an insulating substrate to compose a thermocouple wherein the cold junction is covered by an infrared-ray reflector. CONSTITUTION:A thermoelectromotive force of 2mV/ deg.C per pair is obtained by evaporating P and N type Si or Ge films on stainless steel or the like covered with glass or epoxy for combination. At that time, a performance index is increased by reducing a cross-sectional area after thinning Si, Ge films and by decreasing a heat- conductivity value after lengthening the length of an element. On the other hand, although electrical conductivity decreases by thin films, the current value is almost zero when thermoelectric current is taken out and this will cause no trouble. The Si, Ge specially excel in the absorptivity of infrared energy and are sensitive to temperature rise by thin films and have high sensitivity. With amorphous Si, Ge or the like thinly formed at low temperatures by a glow discharge resolving method, the amorphous Si, Ge are also formed on a heat-resistance macromolecular film to reduce heat capacity and a high-sensitive element can be obtained.
