Abstract

PURPOSE: To stick potassium permanganate on the surfaces of metallic powder and prevent the dry cracking of a welding rod coating material by heating the mixture of metallic powder contg. silicon and an aq. potassium permanganate soln. to limited temps.
CONSTITUTION: 2W25% aq. permanganate soln. is added to metallic powder contg. silicon at 20W50% based on the weight of the metallic powder contg. silicon. Next, the mixture of the metallic powder and the aq. potassium permanganate is heated to 60W90°C to stick the potassium permanganate on the surface of the metallic powder. With heating at below 60°C at this time, it takes too much time for the treatment of the metallic powder, and with heating above 90°C, it is not possible to suppress the dry cracking of the coating material of the welding rod. If the potassium permanganate powder is added and stuck further until the residual moisture of the metallic powder subjected to the above-described surface treatment lowers down to 1.0wt%, the amt. of the potassium permanganate to be stuck on the metallic powder is decreased.
