Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the cavity defects produced during electron beam welding completely by inclining an electron beam in such a way as to intersect with the depth direction of the cavity defects and relatively moving the work and the electron beam.
CONSTITUTION: The irradiation direction of an electron beam 4 is inclined by an angle α with respect to the beam hole (cavity defect) 2 produced in the arcing generating part of electron beam welding, and the work 1 and the beam 4 are moved relatively, whereby the work is welded. When the beam 4 comes to the defect 2 at this welding, a beam hole 5 intersects with the defect 2 at one point. The desirable irradiation angle α of the beam 4 is in a 45°≤α<(θ-5)° and (θ+5)° ≤α≤135° range when the angle of inclination of the cavity defect with respect to the surface of the work is defined as θ. According to this method, the defects unavoidable with electron beam welding are repaired easily by electron beam welding.
